Intimate atmosphere, vibrant social scene, and whimsical architecture were just a few of the derby's unparalleled elements that soon led many actors, directors, and producers to treat the Brown Derby as their home away from home.

Over the years, the Derby became synonymous with status, fame, and power; making it the ultimate Hollywood hub to see and be seen. Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Shirley Temple and countless others frequented the Brown Derby not only to dine, but with the hopes of catching Vitches' eye.

Vitch, the legendary artist whose signature caricature drawings became a measure of caliber amongst the Hollywood elite, was the first from a long line of artists that helped to create the Derby's famous wall of Hollywood.

What are your restaurants hours?

Dinner, Monday thru Thursday, 5pm-9pm, Friday's and Saturday's 5pm-10pm

Do you have a dress code?

Casual is our motto!

What type of cuisine do you offer?

Our Chef specializes in innovative regional American cuisine.

Do you accommodate vegetarians and people with food allergies?

Absolutely! The chef loves to create vegetarian dishes from the freshest ingredients from local farmers markets in addition he can accomodate any special diets since we cook all of our food, fresh to order

May I bring my own wine, and how much is the corkage fee?

Although our wine list is quite extensive, we certainly appreciate and understand that there are times that guests want to bring in their own wines from the collection. A corkage fee of $20 will be added to your bill.

Are you child-friendly and do you have a children's menu?

Of course! We have a great children's menu and we are very child-friendly! An don't forget, if you don't see something that your little one likes, please let the chef know.

Can we just come in for appetizers and drinks?

Just coming in for some fun? Absolutely?

Do you cater?

Definitely! We offer banquets during the week in the dining room for lunch as well as private dining in our Sunset Room - banquet room. We also cater off-premise as well. Please contact our sales event planner for more information.

What credit cards do you offer?

We accept Visa, American Express, Mastercard and Discover.

How much is the average dinner per person, just for food?

Including an appetizer, entrée and dessert, the average cost is around $35.

Can I get a special occasion cake for our dinner party?

Absolutely! One of our other Mallozzi Family properties is Villa Italia Bakery! We would be happy to create a specialty cake for any occasion. Our staff would be able to discuss all the different options for you.

Can I bring in my own cake?

Of course you can, however we do charge a $2.00 cutting fee.

Where are you located?

Directly across from the Palace Theatre in downtown Albany. 22 Clinton Avenue.

Do you have valet parking?

Yes, it's $5.00

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes! Our gift cards make the perfect gift for any occasion. Treat someone special to an unforgettable night at the Derby.

Do you have Happy Hours?

The best in the area! Starting every day at 5PM. Drink specials and a great bar menu!

Do you provide donations for non-profit events?

Certainly, we try to give to the community the most that we can. Please provide a letter either via email to Jeanette@MallozziFamily.com or mail it to the Derby at 22 Clinton Avenue, Albany, NY 12207.

Is there a story behind the "brown hat"?

Though there are many variations regarding the origin of the hat originally, it is said that it came from the iconic "derby" or "bowler" hat worn by New York governor & 1928 Democratic Party presidential candidate Al Smith. Another theory claims that Herbert Somborn (who opened the original Brown Derby in 1926) was told that a restaurant could serve food out of a hat and still be successful if their food was good.

The Newly renovated Sunset Room at The Brown Derby is now available for private events. The room overlooks beautiful views of downtown Albany and across the river. The evening sunsets are beautiful!

This event space is ideal for small dinner parties for rehearsals or pharmaceutical dinners. The room also has an open floor plan for cocktail parties and fundraisers. Our Special Event planners can customize the perfect package to fit every budget.
